Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 | News | 1 Comment

The Black Seeds are set to release “Solid Ground”, their fourth studio album on August 11in New Zealand and across Europe. Recorded at “The Surgery” in Wellington NZ, ‘Solid Ground’ was again recorded by Dr Lee Pebbles and produced by Black Seeds Guitarist Mike Fabulous. Forming in1998, The Black Seeds first made their way into our heart and headphones with “Keep on Pushing”, introducing a style of tamed energy before unheard of in wee New Zealand. As the years have passed, The Black Seeds have continued to treat us to their modernised reggae, funk, dub mix with ‘On The Sun’ and ‘Pushed’ in 2003, ‘Into The Dojo’ in 2006, and now ‘Solid Ground’ in 2008.

The Black Seeds – Keep on Pushing

Currently playing concerts and festivals throughout Europe in countries including England, Scotland, Switzerland, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, with artists including Radiohead, Steven Marley, Jay-Z, & Groove Armada, the group return home to Wellington mid August only to announce their subsequent Australian and American tours.

What a life it must be…

Roots Manuva – Slime and Reason

Friday, July 18th, 2008 | News | 1 Comment

Get ready to witness the fitness, as the man of style and substance brings us more of his razor sharp wit and musical mastery. News has just come out that UKhip hop artist Roots Manuva will be releasing his fifth album early September 2008. The man from South London, otherwise known as Rodney Smith, responsible for such gems as “Run come save me” and “Colossal Insight”, has been quiet on the musical front since his last album came out in 2005, “Awfully Deep”.

Roots Manuva – Again and Again

Roots Manuva is an MC with great lyrical skills and abilities, who also produces much of his own material. You can hear new tracks from the album “Slime and Reason” on his official website and watch the new singles “Again and Again’ and “Buff Nuff”, already avaliable on youtube. Both songs have interesting videos that should appeal to fans of both cricket and ice cream.

Fink

Saturday, July 12th, 2008 | News | No Comments

If you’ve not already heard of Fink then it is about time you were reading this article. It would have come to you a lot sooner except the interview that we had scheduled with him three months ago is still yet to occur. Easily the best thing to come out of the UK music scene since Roots Manuva, Fink, originally from Brighton, now tours the furthest corners of the world playing his inventive mix of Folk, Blues and Dub. Words carry little weight in expressing an artist as unique as this, so check out his live performance below of Biscuits

Fink – Biscuits

Recently touring the US, Netherlands, Scotland, Ireland, and most of Europe with some amazing artists like  Massive attack, and Zero 7, Fink told us he was “desperate to increase my love down under so i can get down there”… well we hope he can get here soon too and we encourage any fans in Australasia to show that love at www.myspace.com/finkmusic

Unsurprisingly the son of a folk musician and music manager, Fink worked as a club promoter in London throughout the time of his own musical exploration helping him to further understand the industry he would be so involved in. Playing such an eclectic mixture of styles, Fink unbelievably didn’t even feature his vocals on earlier releases he made which were based around acid jazz remixes, DJ sets, and electronic hip hop. Fink has also used his production skills for several major artists including Amy Winehouse.
